According to the last update in January 2022, global electronic waste(e-waste) production was estimated to be around 53.6 million metric tons annually. However, this figure may have increased since then due to the continuous growth in electronic consumption worldwide.
In Canada, the exact amount of e-waste generated yearly can vary, but it is estimated to be around 700,000 to 750,000 metric tons per year. This figure represents a significant portion of the country’s overall waste stream.
Efforts to manage and recycle e-waste have been increasing globally, with many countries implementing regulations and problems to address the environmental and health associated with improper disposal of electronics.
